And with the help of my friend Melanie from Head Over Heals with Melanie here are some ideas of what you can wear for your family pictures.

One of my favorite times of year is late fall/early winter.  The air feels crisp and people start to really get into the holiday spirit!  There is nothing like getting a card in the mail that is perfectly styled and photographed.  I’m a total sucker for a good holiday card!  Whether you are a family of three, recently engaged or newly expecting holiday cards are a nice way to get in the holiday spirit.  When deciding what to wear for your photo session there is a few things to keep in mind.  Below are a few fresh and fun ideas to keep your holiday cards as unique as you are.

One thing you will notice in all the boards is that nothing is too formal.  I have noticed filies tend to think you need a bright red dress and a suit in order to look “Christmasy”.  That is clearly not true!  Here are several different ways to ring in the holiday without being too formal or cheesy.

Casual Family Fun – A Mom and two kids use layers, stripes and color to coordinate their outfits in a quirky and fashionable way. Here are three tips that will help make this look happen.

1)   The family who J Crew’s together stays together.  Let’s face it, sometimes it’s really hard to get the whole family to go gallivanting to several stores to find the perfect look.  That’s why stores like J Crew are great.  They have clothes for mom, dad and boys and girls!  That way you can all try on different combinations until you find the perfect look for each member.

2)   I’m a big fan of layers in photos.  I love how a scarf or blazer can make a look extra special.  I also happen to adore accessories.   In my mind, you aren’t dressed until you are wearing your earrings and holding your purse!  It’ll also give you something to play with during the pictures, which can be fun for the kiddos as well.

3)   Think about having a cohesive look, but that doesn’t mean it needs to all match perfectly.  Especially if you are going for a more casual look, it’s important to make sure it doesn’t look like everyone showed up for a different photo shoot.

These next two boards are for the couple wants to look fabulous but not too dressed up.

While this look can be recreated for less, I wanted to show that a more luxurious look could be achieved by spending a bit more on your basics.

Sweater // Purse // Skirt // Boots // Bracelet // Earrings

This look is so fun!  It has a classic feel due to the colors and prints, but each item has a little something special.  Also, the combination of items makes for a really special outfit.

I love me some Mr. Porters!  If you are a guy with style (and expensive taste!) then I just changed your shopping life!  Check them out.

Blazer // Vest // Shirt // Chinos // Shoes // Tie

This board is for a family who wants to take beautiful outdoor photos.

Sweater // Jeans // Dress // Scarf // Hat // Jacket // Dress

I added in an adorable warm hat for baby, as well as a trench coat. I mean… too cute! I also chose to keep the clothing in solid colors, which will help to draw the eye to your beautiful faces!
